The Etymology of “Formication” 

The word “formication” comes from the Latin stem “formicat” meaning “ant“. Formication is a sensation that creates the feeling of ants crawling over some part of the body. This is categorised under the generic group of such sensations, called paraesthesia (which also includes the famous pins and needles sensation).
