The Etymology of Amoeba
The words “amoeba” derives from the Greek root “amoeb” meaning “change“. Amoeba have the ability to shape-shift because of their continuously changing body shapes. This capacitates them with the the ability to take on many shapes, which is known as polymorphism.
Their constant shapes-shifting also renders them no need for feet. Hence, amoeba have false feet, known as pseudopodia [pseudo (false) + pod (feet) + ia (things)].
